The Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, a remarkable presence in Lisbon’s landscape, presents a varied cultural offer in the field of architecture and plastic arts. In this monument, the collection of magnificent tiles stands out, which is one of the largest in the world. There are about 100 thousand tiles and they are in their original place ‘in situ’, covering the walls and stairs of the monastery. Here you can find all periods of Baroque tiles, from the 17th century, with tiles fabricated in the famous Royal Factory of Rato ceramics, to the unique collection of the Fables of La Fontaine in Portuguese tiles.
